Message For Donors

Hi! My name is Emma Silversides, I am a sophomore in high school, and basketball is my favorite sport. I love coaching young girls through a nonprofit I work for, Strong Girls United, and also love coaching a local recreational basketball team each season and sharing a sport I love with the next generation. I love and deeply care about being involved in my community, as well as fundraising and spreading messages for causes that are close to my heart.

Getting to be part of the A Shot For Life community is so meaningful to be because cancer has touched my family personally. When I was in 2nd grade, my mom (Lani Silversides) was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, now we can say she is a Breast Cancer Survivor, and thriving on the other end. My family and I know how much cancer can impact everyone in the family, not just the patient, and I care so deeply about trying to help other cancer patients become survivors.

This A Shot For Life event is a perfect way for me to combine two things so close to my heart -- basketball and supporting cancer research and patients. During the A Shot for Life Event I will be with over 500 other student-athletes playing basketball for 24 hours straight! This is to model how cancer patients don't have any time off.

My goal is to raise $3,000 for Mass General Hospital's cancer research (also the place where my mom received treatments and continues to go), to make a positive impact on any patience battling cancer.

Every donation, no matter its size, can provide hope for families sitting in all too familiar hospital rooms, it can help provide strength for someone who has been associated with the word 'cancer' they are so much more than their disease, I want to help provide them with hope. Any donation helps get us a step closer to helping less patients have to face what my mom went through, and so many more families have faced.

Playing in this event is my way of fighting for them and for the cancer community. Your support means the world to me!
